Andalusia’s Old Three Notch Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is calling all patriots to participate in their first-ever Fourth of July parade.

Set for 10 a.m. on Fri., July 4, the parade will include anyone who wants to participate – from bicycles to vehicles.

“We hope it will be a neighborhood type of parade, with everything from vehicles and floats and politicians and local celebrities to children,” DAR president Brenda Gouge said.

Parade line-up will be in the parking lot of First Baptist Church, she said. The parade will go from FBC west on East Three Notch to Sixth Avenue, where it will turn and go one block to the Covington County Veterans Memorial. There, the DAR will provide refreshments.

Jean and Fletcher Jones will serve as grand marshals. Mrs. Jones is a longtime member and president of the local DAR, and Mr. Jones is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

“We are hoping that people show up with their families and children, to participate in the parade or to watch it,” Gouge said. “Please dress in patriotic colors, and decorate your vehicles in red, white and blue.”

Members of the DAR have been promoting patriotism and dedicating themselves to historic preservation and education since 1890. There are 3,000 chapters nationwide, and 73 in Alabama.
