KATHRYN NEWBERRY ALLEN

Kathryn Newberry Allen, 67, of Alexander City, passed away at her home on April 10, 2011.

Funeral service will be held today, Tues., April 12, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home with Dr. Skip Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

She graduated from Andalusia High School in 1961. She attended Huntingdon College and graduated from Auburn University.  She was a teacher at Jim Pearson Elementary School and Stephens Elementary School for 33 years. She retired in 2001. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two children, Abigail Young Allen Elliot and Phillip Allen; grandchildren, Mary Catherine Cole, Caroline Lilly Cole, Lawrence Russell Elliot III, Lillian Elizabeth Allen and Jackson Young Allen; a sister, Mary Newberry (James) Watley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Young Allen, and by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Newberry of Andalusia.
