First pitch for the 2014 10U Cal Ripken District 8 Baseball Tournament is slated for tonight at 6 at the Opp Sports Complex behind the high school in Opp.

Six teams will be competing for the top two spots in district play as the winner and runner up get berths to the state tournament in Coosa County, near Alexander City.

The All-Star teams competing in the tournament are Andalusia, Opp, Covington County, East Brewton, Brewton and Evergreen.

Tournament format is double elimination.

First-round games for tonight are below:

• Andalusia vs. Covington County, 6 pm.

• Opp vs. East Brewton, 8 p.m.

Friday’s second-round games:

• Brewton vs. winner of Opp-East Brewton, 6 p.m.

• Evergreen vs. winner of Andalusia-Covington County, 8 p.m.

Bottom bracket, or loser’s bracket, play will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The winner’s bracket finals are slated for 2 p.m. after the noon game of the loser’s bracket.

Bottom bracket play will conclude at 4 p.m. on Sunday, right before the championship at 6 p.m.
