Attention bowling fans, grab your bowling ball and head out to Strikers for a good cause.
The Andalusia Area Humane Society will host its first-ever Bowling for the Animals Tournament at the bowling alley on July 19.
“Each year our organization struggles with very limited funding to increase awareness about animal abuse and reduce the unwanted pet population through low-cost spay-neuter programs,” said Paula Hester, event chairman. “We help provide spay/neuter assistance for low-income families. Also as ‘friends of the shelter,’ we work closely with the city-run Andalusia Animal Shelter to promote adoptions and obtain much-needed supplies.”
Hester said the tournament will host co-ed teams made up of four people, with at least one member of the opposite sex on the team.
The minimum age to participate is 14 years old and the entry fee is $50 per team. Trophies and door prize raffles will be available.
Bowling times will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Hester said she hopes to get 16 teams in each time slot.
Additionally, Hester said that businesses are needed to help sponsor a team or to donate a $50 tax-deductible contribution.
“We need your help and continued support to continue making a difference in our community,” she said. “Together we can bring real change to dogs and cats in Andalusia and Covington County.”
Registration forms are available at Strikers or on the Andalusia Area Humane Society Facebook page.
Registration deadline is July 1.
