Andalusia’s Gus Maraman was just looking for a good run Friday night.
Maraman did as he put together a 14.05-second calf-roping performance in the second go of the Alabama High School Rodeo Association State Finals at the Covington Center Arena.
The Andalusia senior, like many of the other locals in the state finals, were competing to ride in today’s short go performance, which starts at 4 p.m.
The top 10 from each event advance to today’s round, and then the top four from today advance to nationals.
In other rodeo action, Lukas Taylor posted a time of 17.75 seconds in the calf roping event; Bailey O’Ferrell posted a 31.888 (seconds) in pole bending; Natalie Johnson and Hanna Seymour also competed in the pole bending event.
In the steer wrestling event last night, Maraman finished his round with a 11.176 second time.
Florala’s Chase Hargrove made it to the short go after a solid performance in the bareback riding event.
Seymour advanced to today’s go in the breakaway roping event; Tyler Elmore, Taylor and Maraman also made it in the calf roping event.
During Thursday’s round, Jordan Whitman and Ryan Bibb finished their round in team roping in 34.34 seconds to keep them at the fourth place position.
Last night’s action wasn’t complete when the Star-News went to press.
Look for results and to see who made it to nationals in Tuesday’s edition.
