South Alabama Speedway was a packed house on Saturday night for the annual Crossover Night.

SAS welcomed fans with free admission to the night’s racing action with a donation of canned goods, toiletries and household items to benefit the ministry.

This was the second year in which SAS joined with the Opp faith-based addiction recovery ministry, for the benefit.

Crossover Ministries staff member Brett Carter estimated nearly a ton of food was collected at the event.

“We had a U-Haul truck and it was full from front to back and about 2 feet deep,” he said.

Additionally, Carter said monetary donations were the best year ever.

Carter said food donated will go a long way in helping feed the classes.

“It will feed this class and then the next,” he said. “It will mean a lot. The community is so good to us. We have more of a problem storing the food than having enough to eat.”

Crossover Ministries was established in 2005 and serves those with addiction in Covington County and surrounding areas through education, work, counseling and the knowledge of Jesus Christ that will help people rebuild their lives and their communities.
