Elba man arrested, charged with murder, attempted murder

An Elba man is behind bars tonight and charged with the shooting death of an Opp man.
Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said Sunday evening his department has arrested and charged 23-year-old Kanavis Malik Cole with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder stemming from an early Sunday morning shooting at an Opp night club.
Demetrice Hines, a 20-year-old Opp resident, was killed and four others injured after the early morning shooting, McDonald said.
McDonald said officers were called to the scene of the Little Harlem Club on Hardin Street at 1:33 a.m. in reference to a report of gunshots being fired. McDonald said officers were able to determine that five individuals had been transported from the scene to the emergency room of Mizell Memorial Hospital by private vehicles.
According to McDonald, Hines died from a gunshot wound while being treated at the hospital. Quanisha Tearow Stoudemire, 19, of Opp, was treated for a gunshot wound to her foot. James Danshay Edwards, 26, of Opp, was treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Tornesha Evette Fate, 27, of Dothan, was treated for a gunshot wound to her forearm. Kenyen Devone Netles, 21, of Evergreen, was treated for a superficial gunshot wound to his leg at Andalusia Regional Hospital.
McDonald said the incident remains under investigation by both the Opp Police Department and the Covington County District Attorney’s Office. McDonald is asking that anyone with any information concerning the incident contact the Opp Police Department at 334.493.4511.
