Florala coach should be named Thursday

Florala principal Brent Zessin said the high school should name its next head football coach at the special-called Covington County Board of Education meeting on Thursday morning.
Zessin said he’s received somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 applications for the vacant post that was held by Bubba Nall, who resigned as head football and baseball coach on May 23.
“We should be able to hire somebody that morning,” Zessin said. “That’s where we’re headed.”
The Wildcats’ football program, which will have its fifth football coach in six years, will be starting summer workouts on Tuesday. FHS strength coach Daniel Green will be supervising the lifting program.
For the football position, several people have already been interviewed, Zessin said.
When asked what sort of an affect hiring a new coach could have on the football team, Zessin said it’s fairly common for a small school to go through this process.
“That’s they way it is at small-school USA,” he said.
Zessin wouldn’t comment on the reason why Nall resigned, but did say that the school wishes him the best and that he did a “good job while he was here.”
