Racing fans, get your canned food or toiletry items ready.

South Alabama Speedway will be welcoming fans with free admission to next Saturday night’s racing action with a donation of boxed canned items, toiletries, household items, etc., to benefit Crossover Ministries for Crossover Night.

According to a press release, the speedway, which is located between Opp and Kinston on Hwy. 52, wrestled with the idea for a free admission night for years.

Last year, SAS joined with the ministry, which is a faith-based recovery ministry based in Opp, for the benefit. Four van loads of goods were donated by the fans, and track owners John and Sandra Dykes decided to make it an annual event.

In addition to the benefit, a full night of racing is scheduled and is highlighted by the Pro Late Model Viper Series Diamondback 100.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. with the Pro Late Model qualifying at 3:30. Racing action will begin at 6 p.m.

Admission is free with the donation, and monetary donations are also welcome.
