ALICE IRENE WARREN

Alice Irene Warren, of Cross City, Fla. and Gainesville, Fla., died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, Fri., May 23, 2014,  at E.T. York  Hospice Care Center in Gainesville following an extended illness. She was 92 years old.

Warren was born in Covington County. She was a war bride from 1942-1944 when her husband, Raymond, served in the South Pacific. They resided in Graceville, Quincy, and Jacksonville, Fla.; Little Rock, Ark., and returned to Cross City 35 years ago to retire. They became Dixie County residents from 1964-l967 and again in l977.

Warren was the daughter of George and Ada Dunn and the beloved wife of Raymond Edward Warren. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Over the years, she was a member of First Baptist churches in Graceville, Quincy, Cross City and Gainesville, as well as Pulaski Heights Baptist Church in Little Rock. Her favorite activity was participating in church missions, particularly in any project where helping people was involved. She and Raymond believed that, “God gave each of us hands, feet, eyes, ears, a voice and a heart that we might love and care for each other.” She was a long-time member of WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union), serving in various leadership capacities, including regional director. She served as a Sunday school teacher to children, young people and adults, and as a Baptist Girls Auxiliary leader. In addition, she sang in her churches choirs for over 65 years. She participated in nursing home visitations and projects, was a trained hospice volunteer and was active in Bible distribution events with Gideons International.

Warren was a supporter and board member of United Christian Service of Dixie County. She was exceptionally skilled as a mentor to young married couples.  She loved traveling with her children and grandchildren and actually traveled around the world with her granddaughter. At one point in her life, warren considered painting as her favorite hobby. She loved putting together large puzzles and playing Scrabble and Chinese Checkers.  Warren especially enjoyed cooking, entertaining in her home, sewing, reading, studying the Bible and maintaining her friendships.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Sharron of Gainesville, Sherry McNeel of Tampa, and Connie Liles of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Jarrett Liles and Warren Liles, both of Tallahassee; and Kristina Sharron (Matt) Enos of New York City; and great-grandchildren, Luke, Joshua and Juliet Liles, all of Tallahassee. Warren was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; three brothers, James Dunn, Tad Dunn and George Dunn; sister, Geraldine Shows; and many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held today, Thurs., May 29, at the First Baptist Church of Cross City at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Brown officiating. A visitation will be held at the church at 1:30 p.m., prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, or charity or church of your choice.

SANDRA NEILL ALBRITTON ROBINSON

A memorial service will be held for Sandra Neill Albritton Robinson on Tues., June 24, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Andalusia. A light luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
