A 17-year-old handicapped teenager missing since Monday from his home in Florala has been located unharmed, according to family members.
Cynthia Campbell said her younger brother, Eric Shrewsbury, disappeared Monday at approximately 4:30 p.m. after riding away from his home on his bicycle.
“He had been grounded and was upset,” Campbell said. “He’s mentally handicapped, so it was scary.”
Campbell said her family filed a missing persons report with Florala Police Department Tuesday at 6 p.m., just over 24 hours after Shrewsbury’s disappearance.
“I got the call last night as to his whereabouts,” Campbell said. “He had gone over to another person’s house and they didn’t let us know. But he’s safe and sound.”
Campbell said Thursday afternoon that she had been in contact with officials with the Department of Human Resources, who informed her they would be retrieving Shrewsbury from the home and returning him to his family Thursday night.
“We’re just glad he’s OK,” she said.
