Peek to play in 4A tennis semis today

Andalusia’s Ian Peek defeated Haleyville’s Cris Marchant 6-2, 6-0 in No. 2 singles action in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state tennis tournament at the Almon Tennis Center at Point Mallard State Park in Decatur on Monday.
Peek will face UMS-Wright’s William Hooper today in the state semifinals.
Cody Stewart defeated Haleyville’s Edson Marchant 7-6, 6-3 in No. 1 singles, but fell to Douglas’s Alexander Wisener in the quarters.
LAMP’s Brock Hidle beat Andalusia’s Jackson Moore 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of No. 3 singles; Andalusia’s David May beat Douglas’s Jacee Wright 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of No. 4 singles, but lost 0-6, 1-6 to UMS-Wright’s Hunter Lanier in the quarters.
In No. 5 singles, Ari Carter lost to LAMP’s Daniel Jung in the first round; and Stewart beat Brooks’ Caleb Richardson 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in No. 6 singles.
Peek and Moore defeated Haleyville’s Marchant and Marchant 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles; Scruggs and May defeated Sardis’ Tim Kalaschek and Chase Bright 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles in the first round and went on to win the quarterfinals; and Carter and Stewart fell to Lamp 2-6, 0-6 in No. 3 doubles.
Scruggs and May will face UMS-Wright’s Hunter Lanier and Harvey in the No. 2 doubles semifinals today.
In girls action, Andalusia’s Elisabeth Christensen lost 0-6, 1-6 to Guntersville’s Morgan Hawk in No. 1 singles; Andalusia’s Sarah Atkinson fell to UMS-Wright’s Anna Miller 0-6, 0-6 in No. 2 singles; Andalusia’s Rachel Dayton fell 0-6, 3-6 to St. James’ Scottlyn Patterson in No. 3 singles; Andalusia’s Karlee Shirley lost 3-6, 4-6 to Wilson’s Whitney Watkins in No. 4 singles; Andalusia’s Jodie Watson lost to Cherokee County’s Courtney Clay 4-6, 3-6 in No. 5 singles; and Andalusia’s C.J. Capps fell 2-6, 2-6 to UMS-Wright’s Brooke Swain in the quarters of No. 6 singles.
All of the Lady Bulldogs doubles groupings fell in their first round of play.
