At least two new businesses are slated for downtown Florala in the near future, thanks to actions taken by the town council Monday night.
The council unanimously agreed to grant a lounge liquor license for Watty’s Bar and Grill, after hearing from owner Jessica Watts.
Mrs. Watts explained the restaurant will offer a place for “a good steak dinner with wine, or chicken wings with mixed drinks to go.”
“This will be somewhere nice,” she said, “geared toward the 35 to 50-year-old crowd who are out on the lake.”
She plans to feature a comedian at least once a month, and perhaps live music.
“Me and my husband are both truck drivers,” she said. “I love to fish, and if I didn’t have to work, I’d be on the on lake every day. “I want it to be positive, not where people come to get sloshed, but to have a nice meal, and have a drink.”
She expects to open in June.
The council also authorized Mayor Robert Williamson and city attorney Wes Laird to negotiate the lease of a downtown building that will become a pawn shop and awning business.
