Before Red Level took the field Thursday night at Pleasant Home, Tigers coaches Tony Ingram and Richard Marler made a deal with their players.

If they won, then the coaches would have to shave off their goatee and mustache.

In the end, the players won and the coaches had to shave, as the Tigers beat the Eagles 16-6 in Class 1A, Area 3 action at PHS.

“We were trying to get the kids going about something,” Ingram said. “If we win the first one, then we don’t have to win that second one.

“My wife was tired of (my goatee) anyway,” he said.

The Tigers needed to win the first game in the planned doubleheader to win the series outright.

RLS went ahead 3-1, but Pleasant Home had a big inning to all-of-a-sudden take a 6-3 lead.

When the game got tough for the Tigers, a constant was pitcher Dylan Jordan.

Ingram said he had the physical tools and composure to play yesterday during the win.

“The fourth inning was a turning point for us. I didn’t know what he was going to do,” Ingram said about Jordan. “He rose to it. We were making errors. He bowed his neck and finished the game.”

Red Level led 9-6 going into the top of the seventh, where the Tigers tacked on seven runs.

With this victory, RLS improves to 4-6 overall, and 2-0 in area.

The Tigers will be back in action today at Florala for a single area game at 4 p.m.
