Bulldogs dominate Charles Henderson 6-1 Tuesday night

Andalusia’s Wain Yongkuma scored four goals to help lead the Bulldogs to a 6-1 area rout over Charles Henderson on Tuesday night.

Yongkuma scored three first-half goals and added his fourth late in the second half. Kevin Rooks and James Albritton scored the other two goals in a game where Andalusia dominated throughout.

Bulldogs soccer coach Tim Ramsden said this win was a total team effort.

“We had some great wins last year. The win against Robertsdale was great, but to lose 5-1 to St. Paul’s (last Friday), and then come back and absolutely dominate that time like we did — that was a total team effort,” Ramsden said. “They should be really proud of themselves.”

With this victory, the Bulldogs improve to 2-2 overall, and 1-0 in Class 1A-4A, Area 2.

Andalusia set the tone early in the first half when Yongkuma scored his first goal from the middle of the 18-yard line.

What gave the Bulldogs a needed advantage during the contest was their penetration up front.

Leading the charge was Trey Ossenfort, who did a stellar job of finding open holes to get the ball where it needed to go.

“When he looks up and distributes the ball, that’s what penetrated most of the time,” Ramsden said about Ossenfort.

Yongkuma’s second goal of the night came with the help of Ossenfort’s running effort down the right side of the pitch.

At about the 34th minute, Yongkuma scored his third goal from the 20-yard line.

Rooks’ goal in the second half came off of a penalty kick to make it 4-0.

Ossenfort then had another helping hand as his header off of a corner kick got the ball in the right spot off of a deflection for Albritton, who scored to get it to 5-0.

Andalusia’s final goal came off the foot of Yongkuma, who scooted it past the Trojans goal keeper off of an assist from Chia Wain.

Charles Henderson got on board with its only goal at the 32-minute mark of the second half on a made penalty kick by Benjamin Salmon.

Ramsden said Yongkuma, Albritton and Rooks, along with many others on the team, played well last night.

“I thought their goal was a little bit of a soft penalty,” the coach said. “Having Cole Bush (ankle) go down with the surgery, we were a little unsure about the positions tonight. Kevin’s got a knock (knee), so we were a little unsure there.

“I thought Cameron (Phillips) did a good job of coming and playing at the left back,” he said. “Jaxon Rudolph has really stepped up. Shelbee (Mathews) played the whole game. Those kind of things mean a lot — when you don’t sub that much and keep up with a strong team. I couldn’t have asked for more tonight.”

Andalusia will be back in action Friday night at 6 against Houston Academy in area play at home.
