Last weekend’s Discipleship Now (D-Now) youth rally in Opp brought in the big crowd organizers expected.
Garrett Davis, student pastor at Carolina Baptist Church, helped organize the Covington Baptist Association rally, which began with a kickoff event at Andalusia’s First Baptist Church on Thursday and concluded with two nights of praise and worship services at Opp High School over the weekend.
“We had over 800 students from probably 20 different churches in the community,” Davis said. “A lot of students made important decisions in their lives.”
Davis said students also filled some of the time between services by doing various “mission projects,” including a group that made bread for people confined to their homes by illness.
“We’re very grateful to Opp High School for allowing us to use the building,” Davis said. “The band and speaker that came into to town were bragging about how nice the people in Andalusia and Opp were. We consider it a big success and are already looking forward to next year.”
Davis said next year’s rally will take place in Andalusia, although a specific venue has not yet been chosen.
“We know it will be back in Andalusia, but there are only three or four places that can accommodate a crowd this big,” he said.
Davis said organizers are always looking for ways to grow the D-Now event, and would be open to other ideas for venues.
