The Andalusia Ballet will present Valentine Dances this at 2:30 p.m. this Sun., Feb. 16, in the Dixon Center of LBW Community College.
Company dancers have an opportunity to express their personal artistic vision as they perform individually-choreographed pieces in a tradition that began several years ago as a fundraiser for the ballet’s building fund. They also created their own costuming.
Sydney Ward chose the Israeli National Anthem for her piece.
“I’m supposed to be a survivor of a Holocaust camp,” she explained of the modern dance she choreographed.
Ella Kate Nichols said she created a dance en pointed to “Angel by Your Side.”
“I had a friend who danced to this song while she was taking chemotherapy,” she said. “That’s why I chose it.”
Hanna Sellers will dance en pointe to “1,000 Years.”
“I like the music, and the lyrics that say I will love you for a thousand years.”
Emily Ward chose “Disappear,” and said her lyrical ballet is about growth and life experiences.
Kassidy Mears compose a modern dance to at throwback piece, “True Colors,” by Cyndi Lauper.
Michaelyn Russell is dancing en pointe to “Reflection,” she said, “Because it was my favorite song when I was a little kid.”
Mary Taylor Seymore composed a modern piece to “Wake Me Up” by Avia.
And Kole Varner is doing a ballet to “Counting Stars.”
