Saints win 3 during weekend opener

LBWCC went 3-1 during its season-opening weekend of baseball action.
The Saints split Saturday — 10-4 win over Bishop State, and a 3-2 loss to Lawson State — before claiming two, one of which was over defending NJCAA National Champion Central Alabama, on Sunday. LBWCC defeated CA 6-5 in extra innings, and won 16-6 over LSCC.
The Saints will be back in action on Friday at home against Pensacola State.
LBWCC 6, Central Alabama 5 (9 innings)
LBWCC’s Michael Tedford scored on an overthrow in the bottom of the third inning, and Roquel Marsh put together 3.1 solid innings on the mound to lead the Saints.
Tedford reached on a walk and advanced to third on a Brandon Pugh bunt, which was then thrown away at third.
Marsh allowed one hit and struck out four, and had three hits.
Pugh, Conner Smith and Blake Grill had two hits each.
LBWCC 16, Lawson State 6
The Saints scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth after trailing 6-5, and tacked on four more in the seventh.
Monterio May led the Saints and went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.
LBWCC 10, Bishop State 4
LBWCC’s Kade Suther struck out four in 3.0 innings while allowing one hit for the win in the Saints’ season opener.
In the LSCC loss, Trey Johns struck out two and allowed two runs on four hits in 6 innings.
