An Andalusia woman is in custody after she not only allegedly stole her mother’s car and used a stolen debit card to fill it up, but then she also abandoned the vehicle in Enterprise, according to police.

Sgt. Jody Scott with the Andalusia Police Department said 20-year-old Erin Leigh Copeland was jailed Monday for the Nov. 9 incident.

“(Copeland) took her mom’s car without permission, and inside it was her mother’s purse,” Scott said. “She took the debit card, filled the car and left the area. The car was recovered in Enterprise, abandoned. I later learned that Miss Copeland had been arrested by the Enterprise Police on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge, which is why the car was abandoned.”

Scott said once Copeland fulfilled her obligation to the EPD Monday, she was taken into APD custody and charged with theft of property I and fraudulent use of a credit/debit card. She was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
