If cold temps are making you worry about the climbing heating bill, then mark the calendar for Mon., Jan. 6.

That’s the day that Organized Community Action Program will begin accepting call-in appointments for its regular heating assistance program, said program director Liz Seay Thursday.

Appointments are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

“And only one appointment per call will be given,” Seay said. “And remember if you’re applying that the utility bill must be in your name.”

Calls will be accepted beginning at 8 a.m., Seay said.

Earlier this month it was announced that Covington County is set to share in a $2.3 million seven-county grant award to OCAP. That money will help heat more than 500 local households.

The funding enables OCAP to provide temporary assistance with electric and gas bills. Priority for assistance is given to the elderly, people with disabilities and families with young children.

“We’re thrilled that we can offer this for the community,” Seay said. “It is so needed.”
