Andalusia boys, girls fall in openers

Andalusia fell 66-60 to Geneva earlier tonight in varsity basketball action in its season opener.
However, the Bulldogs B-team rallied in overtime to top the Panthers 54-49.
In varsity girls action, the Lady Bulldogs fell 31-30.
Shandricka Thompkins led all Lady Bulldogs with 16 points and six rebounds. Laticia Crittenden chipped in eight.
Shayla Thomas grabbed nine rebounds; D’Ashia Johnson had seven steals; and Grace Burns had nine rebounds, four blocks and five assists.
PHS sweeps Zion Chapel
At Pleasant Home, the Lady Eagles defeated Zion Chapel 42-18 in a rout to give coach Jerry Davis his first win as a girls basketball coach.
The varsity boys beat ZCHS 62-50.
Chase Gunter led PHS with 17 points; Troy Fantroy had 12 points; and Alex Myrick chipped in 10.
In B-team action, the Eagles won 34-9.
Opp teams improve to 2-0
Opp’s Jakeith Edwards led the Bobcats with 10 points in the varsity boys’ 56-48 win over Kinston.
Ty White had nine points; and Tavise Stoudemire and Derek Savage chipped in eight points each.
Kinston’s Patrick Smith led the Bulldogs with 14 points.
Opp’s Saquaya Lane scored a career high 33 points in the Lady Bobcats’ 50-34 win over KHS.
Asia Edwards added 12 points and with Lane’s points, combined for 45 of Opp’s total points.
Kinston’s Kelsey Carnley led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.
In B-team action, Opp won 44-42 in double overtime.
Payton Whigham drained two free throws with 6 seconds left in the second overtime period to lift the Bobcats.
Marquavious Hall and Greg House dished in 14 points each to lead OHS.
Ashley Kelley scored 10 for KHS.
Red Level’s girls defeated W.S. Neal 44-37 to win their opener, while the varsity boys lost 47-36.
In B-team action, RLS came out on top 34-31.
