Wild Game cooks use creativity to claim top spots

Thursday’s Covington County Wildlife Federation’s Wild Game Cookoff drew, not only a hungry crowd, but also a host of outdoor enthusiasts who have parlayed their love hunting and fishing into delicious culinary creations.
Taking home the top prizes in this year’s contest were:
• Fish category: Hugghins Sod Farm’s southern taste of the gulf dish – third place; First South Farm Credit’s fish and tomato pie – second place; Dixie Dirt Duo’s low country shrimp with fried grits – first place.
• Fowl category: First South Farm Credit’s dove delight dish – third place; Hugghins Sod Farm’s grilled quail with bourbon pepper jelly glaze – second place; Camp Creek Cookers’ quack-n-quail pizza – first place.
• Game category: Dixie Dirt Duo’s dirty deer chili dish – third place; Hugghins Sod Farm’s one bite wonder – second place; Team Massey’s wild swine in wine – first place.
• Individual team members that placed were: Hugghins Sod Farm’s Marvin Williford, Mike Cheshire, Kendall Williford, Jeff Burleson and Thomas Hugghins; Camp Creek Cookers’ Chuck Dutton, Royce Bass, Bryan Bass and Michael Dutton; Dixie Dirt Duo’s Jeff and Laquetta Grimes; Team Massey’s Gary Musgrove, Jeff Hopkins, Johnny Duggan and Jeff Bullard; and First South Farm Credit’s Hunter Grimes, Russ Walters and Chase Gantt.
