Halloween on Square crowd estimated at 5K

More than 5,000 people braved the wind and rain for Thursday’s Halloween on the Square event in Andalusia.

Alan Bracewell, the city’s superintendent of parks and cemeteries, said the crowd rivaled the total of years past.

“I think everyone had a great time,” Bracewell said. “I’m tickled that the weather held off for as long as it did. You never know how the crowd will react when the weather is questionable.

“It was great to see the range of costumes and the people enjoying themselves on the square,” he said.

Some 32 merchants handed out candy to the throng of zombies, witches, fairies and superheroes.

This year’s booth decorating contest winners were Sanbuck Insurance, first place, and Vector Aerospace, runner up.

“The merchants were just wonderful this year,” Bracewell said. “Everyone went above and beyond.”
