Red Level gave a lot better effort this year, but still came up short to Choctaw County, falling 19-13 in its season opener at Bobby Dye Field.
The Tigers lost 32-0 to CCHS in 2012, and new head coach David Godwin said the boys played hard.
“They fought the whole game,” Godwin said. “If we play with that kind of effort the next nine games, then we’ll win more than we lose.”
Red Level led 7-0 in the first quarter. CCHS bounced back to put it at 7-7 by half time.
The Tigers then turned the ball over on their next offensive possession in the second half, and CCHS took advantage, taking the ball to the house to go ahead 13-7.
CCHS scored its last touchdown midway in the third quarter to lead, 19-7.
The Tigers cut it to six with three minutes to go and tried for an onside kick. The ball was ruled a duel possession, which gave CCHS the ball back.
Earlier in the game, the stadium experienced an electrical issue when one set of lights on the visitor’s side went out. The game was delayed for about 40 minutes to resolve the issue.
