A Covington County jail trusty who caught a ride away from his work at the Andalusia Police Department Saturday surrendered to local police late Wednesday, APD Chief Wilbur Williams said.
Zachery Obrien Chambers, age 22, of Andalusia, who was serving a 330-day sentence for possession of marijuana now has an added Class C felony charge for escape.
Chambers had been a trusty at the APD for less than a week when he disappeared. Video evidence showed Chambers getting into a black Ford Taurus on Burnette Street which is located between the police department and Brooks True Value Hardware.
Williams said local police turned up the heat on Wednesday, searching for Chambers throughout the city. He turned himself in Wednesday afternoon.
