Teachers to get extra supply funds

Andalusia teachers can breathe just a little easier about getting supplies for their classrooms in the new school year.
On Tuesday, the Andalusia City Council approved a $23,000 appropriation, or about $200 per teacher, for school supplies. Mayor Earl Johnson said he will ask the Andalusia Utilities Board to split the cost with the city.
The state Department of Education gives teachers a $300 instructional material allocation, but that doesn’t go far, teachers told The Star-News last week.
