Andalusia, Opp advance at 8U district tourney

Andalusia put together a big three-run fifth inning to edge East Brewton 4-3 tonight in the 8-and-under All-Stars District Tournament at Johnson Park.
During the game-winning inning, two of the Bulldogs’ three runs were earned.
Christian Walker got on base with a single and eventually scored on an error to make it 3-2. CJ Halford added an RBI single to tie the game and Mitch McGlamory ended up hitting the eventual game-winning single to put the good guys ahead 4-3.
East Brewton brought the game to 3-1 in the top of the fourth on a two-run single from Gavin Rose.
Britt Cotton, Frank Gafford and Garrett Blackston went 1-for-2 each to lead Andalusia.
With this victory, Andalusia advances to the winner’s bracket championship and earns a berth to the state tournament. The Bulldogs face the winner of the Opp-East Brewton game tomorrow night at 8.
Opp 14, Covington County 4
Opp scored its first nine runs with two outs on the board on its way to the 10-run rule victory.
The Bobcats added one run each in the third and fourth innings, despite a late surge by CC in the fourth with two runs and a one-run fifth inning.
Robbie Gafford, John Helms and Colby Ballard went 1-for-3 each to lead Opp.
Covington County’s Will Anderson and Devon Singletary went 1-for-2 each.
Opp advances in the loser’s bracket elimination game, where it will face East Brewton at 6 tonight.
Covington County 4, Evergreen 1
Covington County got off to a great start with three runs in the first inning and held on late to send Evergreen home in the 4-1 win.
Singletary went 1-for-3; Ty Clark and Nathan Fowler went 2-for-3 each; and Tracy Coxwell and Joel Wilkinson went 2-for-2 each to lead CC.
Opp 17, Brewton 7
Opp took a 15-3 lead after two innings and that was all she wrote in its 10-run win over Brewton.
Will Spurlin, Gafford, Logan Boothe, Gage Gibson and Prent Huggins had three hits each to lead Opp.
