Volunteers are needed for a Saturday workday at the latest Andalusia Habitat for Humanity home.

Dale Pancake, the county’s chapter director, said work has been ongoing at the home located at the intersection of College and Oak streets – thanks to crews from local businesses and volunteers.

Those wishing to join in the process are asked to be at the home on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon, Pancake said.

“We are making progress on finishing the Taylor house on Oak Street,” he said. “Recently David and Everett Mock put in the driveway, and it looks great. “Steve Pierce got our power and water hooked up, and Wyatt Sasser’s crew finished our porch columns and rail and helped install baseboards and door hardware inside.

This week, Brad Bynum installed our heating and air conditioning unit, so we now have AC inside the house.

“This Saturday, we will be working on cleaning up and leveling the yard, and doing some cleanup and painting inside the house.,” he said. “We would love to have volunteers come help from that morning. Snacks and bottled water will be provided.”

HFH is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization dedicated to building simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need. To date, the local chapter has constructed three homes – one in Opp, Andalusia and Florala. The fourth is located near CCB Community Bank at the corner of College and Oak streets. It will be the home of Tammy Taylor and her family.
