Attention upcoming senior girls – it’s time to think about the Distinguished Young Women’s program.
Those interested in competing should register online by Fri., May 10. An orientation tea is set for Sun., June 2.
Director Cathy Powell said purpose of the program, previously known as Junior Miss, is to o positively impact the lives of young women by providing a transformative experience that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent. The program distributes $10,000 in scholarship money.
“DYW is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments,” Powell said. “Participants are judged on scholastic, physical fitness, self expression, interview and talent.
“It’s true that $10, 000 in scholarship money is a good reason to participate, but this program is not just about the results that are announced on stage the last night,” Powell said. “It’s about the experience and the friendships. Once you have been in the program you are part of a network of awesome girls. It is a once in a lifetime experience.”
Incoming juniors interested in the program can sign up to be “little sisters,” Powell said.
