Raised bed garden workshop set

Those looking to learn more about raised bed gardening will have a chance this month, thanks to a workshop offered through the Covington County Extension Office.
Every year, a growing number of Alabamians plant their own vegetable gardens because of concerns with cost, food safety, and the convenience of having fresh produce in their back yards, said Melissa Wise of the Covington County Extension Office.
“Raised bed gardens are a great option for anyone who wants to maximize space in their landscape,” she said. “They can also help overcome poor soil conditions, limited mobility, and will decrease the amount of labor involved with growing your own food.”
To help new gardeners get started, the Covington County Extension Office will be hosting a raised bed gardening workshop on April 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Topics to be covered will include vegetable gardening basics, raised bed construction, gardening in containers, and drip irrigation. There is no charge for this workshop.
To sign up or for more information, call the Covington County Extension Office at (334) 222-1125. The deadline for registration is Fri., April 19.
