Enterprise’s Danielle Clark struck out 15 and allowed four hits in her team’s 6-4, 11-inning victory over Opp on Thursday night.

The Lady Wildcats and Lady Bobcats scratched and clawed back and forth behind good pitching efforts and went scoreless through the first seven innings.

With the game going into the international tie-breaker rule, each team is alloted a runner on second who got the last out in the inning before.

EHS got the first run of the game in the top of the eighth when Regan Strickland scored on a force out at second from Opp catcher Tori Reisnour to shortstop Courtney Chatham. The Lady Wildcats led 1-0 after the first extra inning.

Opp tied it in the bottom half when Ashley Peacock scored on a throwing error from Enterprise’s catcher at second base.

Each team scored one run in the next two innings and the game was at 3-3 going into the top of the 11th.

Enterprise’s Bailey Hurst hit an RBI single, and advanced to second base. Emily Smith scored to make the game 5-3 and EHS then got another RBI and held Opp to one run in the bottom of the 11th to get the win.

Ninth-ranked Opp (13-4) got bases loaded twice — first when Savannah Gerber reached on an error, and second when Octavia Thompson reached on a walk after Laiken Free hit a sac-fly to score Cayla Hughes, who was at second base.

Opp’s Anna Harrelson pitched a complete game for the Lady Bobcats. She allowed five hits and struck out six batters.

Earlier in extras, Harrelson tied the game on a big hit with two outs in the 10th inning.

“Our pitcher pitched a great game, their pitcher pitched a great game,” OHS coach Jimmy Reeves said. “That’s the way the game’s supposed to be played. I’m just so glad that we got to play a good team like that, and we found out what we’re made of.

“We’re not bad,” he said.

Reeves said the girls’ defense was a big key, despite the loss.

“We definitely didn’t lose the game on defense,” he said. “We lost the game by not scoring any runs. We had a couple opportunities, but attribute that to their pitcher.”
