Twelve members of Andalusia Isshinryu Karate attended the USYKA Summer Camp on July 11 at Henry Horton State Park in Columbia, Tenn.
There, they met with instructors and students from 10 other karate schools from a four-state area to work out and to compete in showmanship and board-breaking competitions.
In addition, the Andalusia students attended an hour-long workout, then participated in clinics by different master instructors in a variety of different areas such as tournament forms, weapons, full-contact training and self-defense.
After a full day of training, participants moved to the conference center, where a showmanship and board-breaking competition was held.
Andalusia competitors placed in the following board breaking divisions:
John Allen Wise — first place, green belt; Colin Marcum — first place, white/yellow belt; Hogan Nichols — first place, brown belt; Kassidy Mears — third place, green belt; Rusty Mears — third place, green belt; Phillip Martin — third place, black belt; and Dr. Rex Butler — fourth place, brown belt.
Instruction in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate is available for all ages at the USA Gym and Fitness Center. Classes are taught by Mark Rudd.
