Peavey, Mitchell lead Straughn to win

Straughn topped Andalusia 13-5 in softball action on Thursday night at the Dwight Mikel Sports Complex.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a quick start, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Olivia Dixon scored the first run off a RBI single by Maggie Lambert. Andi Hughes, who was hit by a pitch, later came around to score on a passed ball.
The lead was cut in half the following half inning after Straughn’s Payton Mitchell doubled and later came around to score on an error.
In the top of the third, the Lady Tigers took the lead scoring three runs. Kristen Peavey drove in two runs on a double, and later came around to score herself on Mitchell’s second hit of the game to give the Lady Tigers a 4-2 lead.
AHS responded with a two-run inning to tie the game up at 4-4. Haley Snider had an RBI single.
In the top of the fourth, SHS opened the flood gates, scoring six runs to take a 10-4 lead. Mitchell collected her third hit of the night and second RBI of the game. Mitchell was also the starting pitcher.
The Lady Tigers added two more runs in the top of the sixth when Sarah Lankford drove in two on a single.
The Bulldogs added their final run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
“This is only the second game, but we swung the bat well and they are playing with a lot of confidence,” SHS coach Trent Taylor said.
Peavey led all players with three RBIs. Mitchell had three hits and a pair of RBIs for the Tigers.
