The Andalusia Bulldogs took care of business Thursday night, defeating Dothan 13-3, 10-4 in a doubleheader at home.
Hunter Earnest got the nod to pitch game one and earned the win on a complete game. Earnest scattered seven hits over five innings and gave up three runs, only two were earned.
The Bulldogs were able to beat the Tigers in only five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Earnest and Justin Scherzinger led the offense with two RBIs each.
Earnest’s final RBI came in the bottom of the fifth to win the game.
Zach Ward and Quinten Maddox also added an RBI each in the 13-3 win.
Game two matched Andalusia’s Grayson Campbell against Dothan’s Caleb Prater with Campbell coming away with the win.
After falling behind in the top of the first 2-0, and then 4-1 in the top of the third, the Bulldogs’ bats started heating up.
A couple of errors by the Tigers gave the Bulldogs a six-run third inning and they wouldn’t trail by another run all night.
Brandon Smith led the Bulldogs with three RBIs in the second game.
Scherzinger added two more RBIs in the second game to give him four total on the night. Scherzinger also had a pretty solid night behind the plate as well, throwing out three potential base stealers on the night.
“We came on with some intensity and the guys were up to the challenge of playing a 6A team. The guys executed very well tonight, and that really makes it easier on you to win when you execute,” Bulldogs head coach Jonathan Rasberry said.
With the two wins, Andalusia moves to 3-1 on the young season, and will head to Headland to face Wicksburg tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
