Opp City Schools is implementing a new program designed to help students become ready for college.

Assistant Superintendent Emily Edgar said the program is called Odyssey College Readiness and will be facilitated at Opp High School.

“This web-based program allows us to assess each student’s knowledge against ACT college readiness standards and automatically prescribes a learning path to address skill gaps across the four core subject areas: math, English, reading and science,” she said. “And because it utilizes assessments that emulate ACT structure and question style, students not only gain the knowledge they need for college success, but are better prepared for the ACT test, as well.”

Edgar said that with more emphasis being placed on the ACT, school officials feel it will be a valuable resource for college readiness and preparation for the future.

The program is free of charge for Opp High School students, and meeting times and places will be determined after an informative meeting set for Tues., Feb. 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the OHS library.

“(The meeting) is to inform all parents and students who are interested in learning for about the ACT process,” Edgar said.
