Activity at Opp’s Micolas Mill is not due to a new contract, as rumors may suggest.
Instead, Plant Manager Billy Whitehead said plant activity is from the moving of the mill’s machinery to Phenix City, a process that may take a while to accomplish.
The plant is scheduled to close sometime this month.
In November, Johnston Textiles, which owns the mill, announced it would consolidate the weaving operation in Opp with its finishing operation in Phenix City, which is about 150 miles northeast toward the Georgia state line.
With the closing, 135 employees had a choice to either lose their jobs or relocate to Phenix City.
