The Opp Lady Bobcats volleyball team is “hoping” to have a good season this year.
“We’re looking forward to it and hopefully it will be a good season,” OHS coach Christie Spurlin said. “Our first game is Thursday night against Providence Christian. We have a lot of young players this year on all of the teams so we’ll kind of have to build it up. I think we’ll be pretty good, hopefully.”
Spurlin said the area games against St. James, Ashford, Brewbaker Tech and Brewton would be the most important.
“Those games and any of the other ones in our area,” she said.
Spurlin said she would be running a 5-1 defense again this year, sticking with what the team ran the previous season.
The Lady Bobcats will have to overcome the loss of Mychal Drew, who graduated in May. Spurlin said to make up for losing Drew, she has had to move up a team member from junior varsity.
“I brought another girl up from (junior varsity) this year so I’ve got some girls that can play,” Spurlin said. “So, hopefully she’ll bring us good things too.
“We’re just a younger team this year,” she said. “Hopefully it will get better as the season presses on.”
Spurlin said her team’s goals are to win every game and leave every game better than when they started.
The Lady Bobcats’ setter will be Alli Colquett and their libero is Kimberly Vaughn.
