Pleasant Home’s Brianna Dozier scored 13 points and added eight rebounds to help lead the Lady Eagles to a 47-24 homecoming rout over Kinston Friday night.

The Lady Eagles dominated soon after the opening tip, despite a slow start.

PHS took a 10-0 lead after Jade Self found Raven Woods down low for an easy bucket with more than a minute left in the first period.

Earlier in the opening eight, Woods found Abigail Kelley who then threw it to Dozier for the first points of the night.

Self got a steal and drove the lane for the next two points and Woods found Dozier again with 3:08 left in the first to give PHS a 6-0 lead.

After the first period, the Lady Eagles led 12-4.

“We were glad to end a good day with a victory,” PHS girls coach Kelley Garner said. “We played hard and I played a lot of different girls who weren’t used to playing against each other. I just ran a lot of girls in and out.

“We had three on the homecoming court so they left a little early,” she said. “We still go through periods of dry spells. We have good looks and get good shots, but can’t get it to fall. Next Tuesday night, we’ve got to be able to put those shots in the goal. We got a lot of good looks, but we’ve just got to finish consistently.”

Pleasant Home’s Ashley Williamson found Allison O’Neal under the bucket to put their team up 18-6 to start the second period.

PHS went on to lead 22-7 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles (11-6, 3-1) outscored KHS 17-7 in the third period, leading by as much as 26 at one point.

Garner reiterated how important it is for her girls to play a full game and not in spurts.

“We’ve just got to play for eight minutes for four quarters,” she said. “Some games we can’t survive going in those little cold spells. We’re just glad to finish with a victory.”

Woods led PHS with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals. Self had eight points, four steals and two assists. Kelley had four steals and two assists.

Kinston’s K. Carnley led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points.
