Some of Andalusia’s most talented young people will take the stage Thursday evening at the “Music Around Town: Youth Talent” concert.
The free concert will be held from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. behind the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College student center. The city’s tourism and relocation committee is presenting the event.
“The T and R committee holds its ‘Music Around Town’ series as a way to promote different groups of talented people in the county,” said committee member Martha Duggan. “August has always been the month for our youth talent, and we’ve got another great line-up this year.”
Duggan said the performers Thursday will include Peyton Prevett, Skyler Henley, Ashley McDonald, Callie Mae Criggers, Sam Fairley, Cat Dean and Anna Bay McCord.
“It’s amazing to see the amount of talent in this town,” Duggan said. “These kids have worked really hard on their performances, and I know those who come to the concert will be impressed by the amount of talent our young people have.”
Duggan said the concert would be canceled if it rains, but the committee is “praying for sun.” It is an open air concert, so those who attend are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and other picnic items.
“It is a really nice way to spend a Thursday evening and hear some good music,” she said.
The youth talent concert is the final event of the four-concert summer series for “Music Around Town.” Duggan said the committee’s next annual event would be the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in December. She also said the committee is currently making preparations for “Homecoming 2010: Absolutely Andalusia,” which will be held next year.
