Karts starting engines today

Local race fans, start your engines.
The fifth annual Alabama Karting Super Show will kick off today at Covington Center Arena.
The two-day event will feature trade shows each day and racing each night on the arena’s dirt oval. More than 200 entries will compete in the races on Saturday night.
“We are expecting a big crowd for the trade show and car show and for the races Saturday night,” Super Show presenter Jody Pierce of Jody Pierce Performance said.
Today’s trade show is from noon until 4 p.m.
The super show will get going tonight, where kart drivers will practice from 6:15-8; and drive for qualifying times, starting at 8:30.
On Saturday, the trade show will open at 8 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.
Saturday’s race schedule includes registration from 5:15 p.m. until 6 p.m.; and practice from 5:45 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. Races will start at 7 p.m.
The indoor dirt race includes 14 classes and more than $12,000 in guaranteed payouts.
Ticket prices vary on the event.
For adults attending trade shows, it’s $10 each; $5 for kids ages 4-8; and kids 3 and under get in free.
A one-day pit day pass is $20. Weekend passes for adults are $35 each; $20 for kids 4-8 years old; and kids 3 and under get in free.
Grandstand tickets in the race arena on Saturday night are $5 each. Kids 5 years old and under get in free. Family budget plan is $20.
