Gunter N. Guy Jr., a Montgomery attorney, has accepted Alabama governor-elect Robert Bentley’s offer to become the state’s next conservation commissioner.

Guy, 55, said Thursday evening that he accepted the job on Wednesday, having met with Bentley a couple of times since the election. Bentley’s transition team had not issued a statement confirming the appointment as of Thursday evening.

Guy graduated from Auburn University in 1978. He’s practiced law with the Ball, Ball, Mathews and Novack firm since graduating from the Cumberland School of Law in 1982. He has also been city attorney for Montgomery and Opelika.

Guy lives on the family farm in Letohatchee, where he said he helped his father “working cows and fixing fences.” He also learned to hunt and fish there.

“I’m a lifelong outdoorsman. I have certain passions, but I love to do it all,” Guy said.
