Eight children who participated in the Opp Cultural Arts Council’s Wednesday art class were introduced to acrylic and canvas painting.

Teachers Anita Ellis and Kathy Grantham explained to the children about acrylic painting and showed them how to make a flower canvas painting.

Students also learned the differences among three types of brushes and the purpose of each type of brush.

Ellis told the students that China Bristol brushes are typically used for acrylic and oil painting; softer brushes are used for watercolors and sponge brush.

“I’m not going to tell you which brush to use,” she said. “I want you to figure out what type of brush you like the best.”

Ellis and Grantham taught the students that though they were basing their painting off of the same thing, their perception would be different, and they all have different styles.

The sessions will continue throughout January. Anyone wishing to have their children participate, should bring $50 with them to the OCAC on North Main Street next Wednesday.
