Baker’s Cassidy Anderson drained two early 3-pointers on her way to a 23-point performance in the Lady Gators’ 53-19 rout over Pleasant Home on Saturday night at the Alabama-Florida Shootout.

The Lady Eagles trailed 6-0 after Anderson’s treys and never could recover in the loss, facing a deficit throughout the contest.

PHS fell behind 12-5 after the first period and was outscored 15-6 in the second as the Florida team led 27-11 at halftime.

“They’re very quick,” PHS coach Kelley Garner said. “They’re a senior ball team. They had 11 seniors and two juniors. We were playing without Jade (Self) out point guard and Cassidy (Godwin) got three fouls in the first quarter. So, we were basically playing with our head cut off.

“We just didn’t have a good night,” she said. “We shot poorly from the free throw line.”

In fact, the Lady Eagles (8-5) had some opportunities to keep the game respectable at the line as Lady Gators’ coach Brian Wagner received two technical fouls during the course of the game. His second earned him a ticket to the locker room.

“It just wasn’t a real good game,” Garner said.

Like the rest of the season so far, Pleasant Home got an early spurt in the third period to start the second half.

The Lady Eagles got a jumpers to go from Ashley Williamson and Godwin early, and Raven Woods later got a steal and a lay up to try and keep the game honest.

Baker led 37-17 after the third period, and went on to outscore PHS 16-2 in the fourth period.

Woods led PHS with 10 points. Williamson chipped in seven points.

Kathryn Quigg added 13 points and Bethany Chestnut had 12 points for BHS.

Garner said this tournament has taught her team a lot on what needs improving.

“We just need to realize the things we need to work on real quick,” she said. “Hopefully, we’ll get Jade back for the game (tonight at Kinston).

“We’ve just got to continue to work and get better,” she said.
