Late basket nets SHS girls win

Trailing the entire game, Straughn’s girls basketball team tied the game with 1:19 left in the fourth period, took the lead with 36 seconds left and held on to win 40-38 over Headland in area action.
“We were down seven points at the half, and the girls responded and came back,” SHS girls coach Scott Kinsaul said. “They played just like the girls they are. They played with a lot of heart and character. I’m proud of them.”
Jacie Williamson led the Lady Tigers (14-4, 2-1 in Class 4A, Area 3) with 15 points. Katy Messick added nine points.
Straughn will play host to Brantley on Friday night.
In varsity boys action, Straughn lost 70-43. In B-team action, Straughn lost 56-31.
