Ann Eason was appointed Florala’s new District 5 councilperson Monday.

Eason will fill the seat vacated by Gloria Cassady, who cited personal reasons for not taking office in November. Cassady ran unopposed in the August municipal election.

Eason, a retired teacher, was one of three candidates for the position. Tuesday, she said she was thrilled to join the city council.

“After the meeting was over the mayor asked if anyone had a comment, and I stood and said, ‘I want to thank all of you for your vote of confidence. I promise to do my best,” Eason said. “I really do want to thank the people of Florala that called (the council) on my behalf as it means so much to me.

“I also want to thank the council and the mayor for appointing me,” she said. “I will listen to the people in District 5 and the people of Florala. I promise I will always be honest and do the best job that I can. I would love to see Florala prosper.”
