Cats seized now up for adoption

The 14 cats seized from an Andalusia home last month are well and ready to be adopted.
The Andalusia Area Humane Society is assisting the City of Andalusia Animal Shelter in finding new homes for the animals acquired Nov. 28 after the arrest of a woman who allegedly scammed pet lovers nationwide out of more than $25,000 in cash and thousands more in pet supplies.
Sharlotte Marie Adams, the 30-year-old operator of Animal Aid and Rescue Resources Inc. located on Lori Lane, is facing charges of theft, animal cruelty and child endangerment. She has since been released on bond.
Christin Ball and the AAS staff have worked since Tuesday to treat the cats for severe infections.
“The 14 cats in Adams’ possession were all sick and dying, but thanks to the excellent care they’ve received at the Andalusia Animal Shelter several are now ready to go to their loving, forever homes,” said Debra Evans, AAHS secretary. “To find that home as soon as possible, the Andalusia Animal Shelter is waiving adoption fees on the cats, and the Humane Society is helping with the spay and neuter expenses.”
For more information, or to make an adoption application, please contact the Andalusia Area Humane Society at 334-343-6455 or the Andalusia Animal Shelter at 334-222-8705 where they can be seen.
Animal lovers are also asked to “like” the AAHS Facebook page for updates on the animals, and others soon to be added.
Police believe Adams took advantage of peoples’ generosity by using cash donations – solicited under the guise of treating sick animals on popular social media websites – to pay for personal items such as electric bills and groceries for the family.
