EMMA JEAN KELLEY YARBROUGH

Emma Jean Kelley Yarbrough, 71, of Westville, Fla., passed away Sun., Nov. 4, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 8, at Midway United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Burch and the Rev. James Lolley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service Thursday.

She was born July 1, 1941, in Coffee County, to the late J.D. “Buck” and Mamie Jackson Kelley. After 22 years of service, she retired from Van Heusen as a sewing machine operator and later worked for The Opp News. She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents her husband, Jerry Wayne Yarbrough; her brother, Charles Kelley; a niece, Wendy Thomas, and her special friend, Minnie Crews, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two daughters, Becky (Jerry) Hollobaugh of Westville, Fla., and Lisa (Jason) Sutherland of Coosada; three sons, Lamar (Cindy) Yarbrough and Bruce Yarbrough, all of Westville, and Michael (Connie) Yarbrough of Yuma, Ariz.; a special lady whom she loved as one of her own daughters, Leslie Yarbrough of Swansboro, N.C.; three sisters, Linda Christine (Tex) Tyler of Andalusia, Sue (Howard) Owens of Red Level and Patsy (Gene) George of Sanford; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be William Brewer, Roger Yarbrough, Eric Craft, Jarrett Yarbrough, John Commander and Allen Russell.

JEANETTE M. BAILEY

Jeanette M. Bailey, 75, of Andalusia, died Mon., Nov. 5, 2012, in a Foley hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Fri., Nov. 9, at Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oakey Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at Foreman Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Josie Moore Merrill; sisters, Judith Taylor and Rosalyn Merrill; and brothers, Joseph Merrill and David Merrill.

She is survived by her husband, Veston H. Bailey of Andalusia; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa (Jerry) Archie of Daphne; sons and daughters-in-law, Perry (Wendy) Bailey of Andalusia and Branton (Ashleigh) Bailey of Elberta; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Evan “Tank” (Ophelia) Merrill of Gantt and Willis (Raydon) Merrill of Dothan; and her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Wright of the Rawls Community.

 

WILLIAM ROBERT ‘BILL’ HICKS

William Robert “Bill” Hicks, 91, of Andalusia, died Tues., Nov. 6, 2012, in a local nursing facility.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Thurs., Nov. 8, at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Minister Chance Hicks officiating. Interment will follow with Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Foreman Funeral Home.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Barbara Hicks of Andalusia; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Greg Hall of Andalusia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil Hicks and Huey Hicks of Dade City, Fla.; sisters, Mary Blocker of Opp and Polly Smith and Ann Castleberry of Montgomery; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Hicks of Montgomery.

Pallbearers will be Glen Hall, Keith Hall, Nick Wammack, Gary Hicks, Chance Hicks and Ethan Hicks.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be to Cedar Grove Church of Christ, Comfort Care Hospice, Andalusia Manor or the Alzheimer’s Association.

 

ELNA LORAINE ANDREWS

Elna Loraine Andrews, 75, of Andalusia, died Mon., Nov. 5, 2012, in a Dothan hospital.

Funeral services will be held today, Wed., Nov. 7, at 2 p.m., from the Andalusia Full Gospel Tabernacle with the Rev. John Hunt officiating and interment following in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

She is survived by her husband, Shelton Andrews; her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Martha Andrews; her daughter, Patricia Russell, all of Andalusia; three grandchildren, Kristi (Ray) O’Brien of Troy, Kim (Seale) Caton of Dothan, and Kacey (Sterling) Sasser of Brantley; five great-grandchildren; two stepchildren and their spouses, Jerry and Carole Andrews of Brandon, Fla., and Judy and Lonnie Carnley of Plant City, Fla.; three step-grandchildren, Daryl (Ann) Carnley of High Springs, Fla., Michelle Andrews and Sean Andrews, both of Lake Wales, Fla.; two step great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Pat Curry; her sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Jim Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Donnie Curry, and her sister, Jean Lembke.

Pallbearers will be Seale Caton, Ray O’Brien, Sterling Sasser, Daryl Carnley, Lonnie Carnley and Stallion Sasser.

PARRIE HARRIS

Parrie Harris, 57, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Nov. 4, 2012, in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., today, Wed., Nov. 7, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Knowles officiating and interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Harris of Andalusia; sons, Parrie (Awjannette Ayers) Harris and Timothy (Marquita) Harris, all of Red Level; daughters, Heather (Chris) Brown; mother, Josephine Gilmore, both of Andalusia; stepchildren, Sandra (Kenny) Alexander, Tosha (Rodney) Scott and Tony Wambles; brothers, Dewayne (Michelle) Harris, Coston (Margret) Harris, Robert (Carolyn) Harris and Earnest Harris, all of Andalusia; sisters, Mary Nell (Glenn) Scroggins of Red Level, Phyllis Ledlow of Mississippi and Barbara Griggs of Florida; grandchildren, Thaad Harris, Beau Harris, Maddie Harris, Shane Brown, Samantha Peek Lee, Lindsey Brown, Kaitlin Lee, Christopher Lee, Skylar Lee, Tony Lee, Cameron Doster, Cody Doster, Dylan Clay and Emily Clay; and several nieces and nephews.

WILLLIAM HUGH KING

William Hugh King, 92, died at his home in Andalusia on Sat., Nov. 3, 2012.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Mon., Nov. 5, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Karthaus and his daughter, Peggy King Scott, officiating the service. Interment followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Johnnie Reeves King; his children, Peggy King Scott and former son-in-law, Joseph D. Scott, William Hugh King Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and Catherine King Alexander and her husband, Gary; his grandchildren, Mary Beth Scott VanSickle, Jennifer Scott Borden, Carrie King Maurelli, Alex King, Mitchell Alexander and Edie Alexander; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Annette Reeves, Janette Locklier and Patricia Northrop; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Chambliss King and John Daniel King; his siblings, Cyril King, Gaston King, Janice King Andress, Lowell King, Winona King, Johnnie Lee King Tarrer and Lucy, who died as a young child.

Born in Brooklyn on April 5, 1920, he is a veteran of World War II who survived the sinking of his ship, U.S.S. Drexler, off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. He returned to Andalusia to purchase Bell’s Supermarket, later renamed King’s IGA, and to set a high standard for the grocery business in Andalusia for more than 60 years.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Andalusia, serving as a deacon, Sunday school director, training union director and in other various capacities. He participated in the Lions Club and in the Chamber of Commerce, serving as its president and working to promote business and civic affairs. He was instrumental in the establishment of Andalusia Hospital and in steering the mission of Andalusia Health Services Inc.

He loved his family, his church, his farm and his community, serving all with honor, graciousness and unfailing kindness.

The family extends its deep appreciation to all of the family and friends, all of the caregivers, and to the staff of Southern Hospice who visited and cared for him during his final illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Andalusia, to the Gideons or to a charity of one’s choice.
