Jane Anthony recently celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
A party was held at her home on Oct. 14. She and her husband, Eland, have lived in their home for the last 58 years. Hosts for the party were her children, Richard and Ginny Anthony of Birmingham, Terry and Katherine Dubose of Panama City, Fla., Sam and Elizabeth Starr of Andalusia, David and Angela Anthony and Billy and Happy Anthony, all of Birmingham.
Also attending were six of her grandchildren and 11 of her great-grandchildren. Her dear friend and neighbor, Agnes Fowler, was also present.
The party began at noon with appetizers and beverages on the terrace. Everyone then gathered in the living room, where her eldest son, Richard, gave some humorous and meaningful remarks about his mother’s life. Her son-in-law, Terry, gave the blessing before a delicious lunch was served in the dining room, which was filled with fall flowers.
Jean McClellan catered the meal of sliced turkey breast with all the trimmings, pasta salad, potato salad, fresh vegetables with dip and several kinds of chips.
After lunch, everyone sang “Happy Birthday,” and a beautiful white cake with yellow roses was served. Some of the great-grandchildren beat their grandmother in blowing out her candles.
While everyone enjoyed cake and ice cream, Mrs. Anthony opened her gifts. Her special neighbors, Jim and Laura Carpenter, also came by to deliver well wishes, and Marilyn O’Neal brought flowers from the First Methodist Church, where the Anthonys have been members for many years.
