“Cards for Cooper” is going for a second round as the Andalusia boy continues to fight acute lymphobalastic leukemia.

Last year, family and friends started the initiative when Sasser was unable to have a birthday party because of chemotherapy treatments. Mom Christy said the boy, while in remission, has 22 treatments remaining, which he receives at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

“Last year we did cards for Cooper, and he received cards from all over the world,” she said. “ All children love to receive their own mail, especially when they are sick. Cooper had so much fun receiving his birthday cards that we want to do it again this year. Last year, we got over 400 cards, and we hope to break the record this year. But this year, we wanted to do something a little more special.”

As part of the fundraiser, participants are asked to send a birthday card with $1 in it. All money raised will be used to help fund Christmas for children on the oncology floor at Sacred Heart.

“Right now, we want to say, ‘thank you all so much for your love, support, and prayers’ to everyone who helped last year and who will help this year,” Sasser said. “We can’t wait to break last year’s record, but most importantly, be able to put a smile on the faces of those children who will be spending Christmas in the hospital.”
