Opp ready to take on area opponent

The Opp Lady Bobcats only need to beat St. James to put themselves in a dead heat for area dominance.
Opp has already defeated Ashford and Brewbaker Tech in area matches, but lost its first match to St. James. St. James is 3-0 in area, and if Opp can win on Oct. 8, the Lady Bobcats and Lady Trojans will tie for the area lead at 3-1 each.
The Lady Bobcats will visit Andalusia tomorrow night in regular season play.
Opp coach Christie Spurlin said a win against Andalusia would boost her program.
“We’re going to try to pump up the practices some so maybe we can get us a win,” she said. “We can beat them, everybody’s got to get together and just to play together as a team. Everybody’s got to play their best.
“If we can just all get in there and play like we’re supposed to, I believe we can beat them; we’ve done it before.”
Spurlin said in order for the team to be successful, they need to work on their passing game.
“If we can get our passes, we can do pretty much everything else,” she said. “Our passing has been very weak. We’ve been working on it at practice through regular drills and game-like drills. That’s what we’ll be working on this week.”
Opp will play St. James for the tie in its area on Oct. 8 in a tri-match in Kinston.
Monday night, the Lady Bobcats lost to Providence Christian School in three games, 2-25, 9-25, 18-25.
Providence Christian freshman Elizabeth Dowd had 20 service points to help lead her team to the victory.
Spurlin declined to comment about the match on Monday night.
